Our Process
How we source and inspect every truck we sell.
Quality is our number one priority. Every truck on our lot comes from a wholesale dealer or a bona fide fleet — never an auction surprise — and goes through a two-step inspection process before it ever hits our inventory page.
Why this matters
Most used truck deals are a black box.
When you're spending tens of thousands of dollars on a used Class 8 truck, you're trusting two things: where the truck came from, and how thoroughly it was checked before it was offered to you.
Most used truck dealers don't talk about either of those things. They list trucks. You buy them. What happens behind the scenes is a black box.
We do it differently. Below is exactly where our trucks come from and exactly how we evaluate them — because if a truck makes it to our inventory page, we want you to know why.
Step 0 · Sourcing
Every truck we buy comes from one of two sources.
Wholesale dealers or bona fide fleets. Never an unverified auction. The sourcing decision happens before any inspection — if we don't trust the source, we don't engage at all.
Wholesale dealers
We work with established wholesale dealers who specialize in moving fleet equipment between operators and resellers. These trucks come with a known history and a reputation behind them. Wholesale partners build their business on the trucks they sell — they can't afford to push junk, and we can't afford to buy it.
Bona fide fleets
We also buy direct from operating fleets that are cycling out equipment, downsizing, or upgrading. These are real working trucks that have been maintained on a fleet's preventive maintenance schedule by professionals — not auction castoffs from unknown sources.
No auction surprises.
We don't buy out of unverified auctions. We don't take in surprise trade-ins from sources we don't know. We don't acquire trucks where the history is unclear. The best signal of how a truck has been treated is who treated it.
The two-step inspection
Sourcing is step one. Inspection is step two — and we do it twice.
Independent third-party 150+ point inspection
Before we ever buy a truck, we send it to an independent third-party inspection service that runs a comprehensive 150+ point evaluation. This isn't a quick walkaround. If a truck doesn't pass, we don't buy it. The inspection happens before the deal closes — full stop.
In-house inspection and diagnostic
Once a truck arrives at our lot, our team runs our own inspection and full diagnostic check. We pull codes, verify the third-party findings, and address anything new. This catches anything that may have come up between the original inspection and the truck's arrival on our lot.
What the third-party inspection covers
Engine
Compression, oil pressure, leaks, fault codes, performance under load.
Drivetrain
Transmission, clutch, differential, driveshafts, U-joints.
Frame & suspension
Frame integrity, leaf springs, air bags, shocks, alignment.
Brakes
Air system, drums or rotors, slack adjusters, lining wear.
Tires & wheels
Tread depth, wear patterns, mounting, wheel condition.
Electrical
Alternator, batteries, starter, lighting, sensors.
Cab & interior
HVAC, seats, sleeper condition, gauges, controls.
Fluids & filters
Engine oil, coolant, transmission fluid, fuel system.
Body & glass
Paint, panels, mirrors, windshield, doors.
Documentation
Title verification, mileage verification, VIN check.
The result
Three layers of verification. Two independent sets of eyes.
By the time a truck is listed on our inventory page, it has been sourced from a known, trusted seller, evaluated against 150+ checkpoints by an independent third party, and re-inspected and diagnostically scanned by our own team.
One simple goal: when you buy a truck from us, it works.
1
Verified source — wholesale dealer or bona fide fleet.
150+
Checkpoints evaluated by an independent third-party inspector.
2
Independent sets of eyes before a truck hits inventory.
0
Auction surprises. Ever.
Why we do it this way
Control what you can control.
We started First Class 8 in 2023 because we'd seen too many drivers and fleets buy a used truck only to be in the shop the next month. The used Class 8 market has a reputation, and most of that reputation is earned.
Our answer was simple: control what you can control. Source carefully. Inspect twice. Be transparent. Don't sell what you wouldn't drive.
That's not a marketing strategy. That's how we run the business. Quality is our number one priority — and it's the only reason any of the rest of this works.
What it means for you
You're not gambling on what's underneath the paint.
When you buy a truck from First Class 8, you're buying one that came from a verifiable source, passed a 150+ point third-party inspection before we acquired it, was re-inspected by our team after it arrived, and has documented findings we can walk you through line by line.
If you want to see the inspection paperwork on a specific truck, ask. If you want to bring your own mechanic for an additional pre-purchase inspection, we welcome it. Confidence in what you're buying is the whole point.
